The 2012 NUI Maynooth Department of Biology and Institute for Immunology Research Day was held on the 20th of July.
A total of 25 oral presentations were given by postgraduate students and postdocs in four thematic sessions that were co-chaired by lecturers and senior postdocs.
In addition, there was a lively poster session with 27 posters being presented.
Research in the department covers a wide variety of topics and so we learned about innate immune signalling pathways, bioinformatics networks, stress responses of different species, drug design, and many other interesting topics.
The programme is available here.
Our postgrads and postdocs gave some excellent presentations and made it very difficult for the
judges to pick the recipients of the four awards:
Best postdoc talk: Dr David Alvarez Ponce, Bioinformatics and Molecular Evolution Unit
Best postgraduate talk: Ruth Brennan, Host-Pathogen Interaction Lab
Best short talk/poster: Natasha McCormack, Epithelial Immunology Lab
Best poster: Helen Kennelly, Cellular Immunology Lab
Congratulations to the winners, and also to all the other presenters who contributed to this very
interesting day!
